Gisela (Bringmann) Canova

Gisela Bringmann Canova, 78, passed away peacefully on February 21, 2018 at her home in Longmeadow, MA. She was born on April 23, 1939 in Dresden, Germany to Josef Bringmann and Katharina (Schiffers) Bringmann. Gisela grew up in Munich, Germany where she graduated from the English Ladies Business College Nymphenburg-Munich. She moved to the U.S. in 1958 and married Ronald V. Canova in 1962. Gisela proudly received her U.S. citizenship in 1966. She was employed by John H. Breck, Inc., Hallmark Cards, Inc. and Jagenberg, Inc. Gisela was president of the Greenville, SC Garden Club and enjoyed playing bridge, gardening, reading American history, spending time with family, and volunteering to help others. Gisela will always be remembered by the infectious glow of her radiant smile.Gisela is survived by her husband of 55 years, Ronald; sister, Brigitte Stehnkuhl of Munich; two sons, Brian (Dea), CDR, USNR (Ret) of Atlanta, GA and Alan (Paula), Lt Col, USAF (Ret) of Carlisle, MA; and four grandchildren. Gisela was predeceased by her parents; stepmother, Hilde Bringmann; brother, Max Bringmann; and son, John. The Canova family is grateful to the nurses and health aides of Baystate Hospice for the overwhelming affection and personal care provided to Gisela. Private services will be held for immediate family members. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations be made to the Alzheimer’s Association (alz.org/manh) and Hospice (hospicenet.org).
