Michael J. Monaghan Jr.

April 9, 1968 ~ April 4, 2024 (age 55) 55 Years Old

Obituary

Michael Joseph Monaghan, Jr., 55, of the Feeding Hills section of Agawam, passed away at home on Thursday, April 4, 2024, after a five-year valiant battle with cancer. A beloved son of the late Bridie and Michael Monaghan, Sr., Michael was born on April 9, 1968, in Chicago, Illinois and was raised in Chicopee. A graduate of Chicopee High School and Southern Vermont College, Michael went on to become a Licensed Master Electrician, working many years for Consolidated Electrical Services and the last eighteen years for the Hampden County Sheriff's Office.

Michael had a lifelong passion for soccer. Having played from youth through his college years, he carried his love of the game on as a youth coach and longtime member of the Tigers A.C. in Chicopee. One of Michael's greatest joys was coaching his son, Aidan, in both soccer and wrestling in Agawam, where he lived for the last twenty years.

Michael was a strong, committed and selfless man who gave his all in every way. These traits were exemplified by coaching through his cancer treatments and prioritizing his family and friends, including caring for his mother in her final months of life. He loved spending time with family and never missed a gathering, sporting or school event, even if he wasn't feeling his best, and he rarely complained about his illness.

He also spent time in recent years volunteering with CHD's All In Sled Hockey Team, pushing one of the player's sled. He was an avid Liverpool fan, and one of his favorite pastimes was watching soccer, along with the Bruins and Celtics, and he also loved taking long walks around the neighborhood.

Michael will be deeply missed. He is survived by his loving family; his wife, Laurie (Robledo) Monaghan and their son, Aidan, his sister, Eileen and her partner Jason Chapdelaine of Chicopee, his brothers John Joe and his wife Kristen of Monson, Patrick and his partner Jennifer Hinton of Hinsdale, and Stephen of Greenfield. He also leaves his beloved nieces and nephews, Ashley Rouleau and Kathleen Brooks, Ryan, Meghan and Ciara Monaghan, Kyle and Connor Monaghan, and Kevin Naylor, many loving aunts, uncles, and cousins in the US, Ireland and England and many good friends as well.

Family and friends are invited to gather on Wednesday, April 10, 2024 from 4 - 7 PM at Colonial Forastiere Funeral & Cremation, 985 Main Street, Agawam. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, April 11. 2024 beginning at 9:30 AM at the funeral home followed by a Liturgy of Christian Burial at 11 AM at Sacred Heart Parish, Springfield Street, Feeding Hills. Burial will be in St. Patrick Cemetery, Fuller Road, Chicopee after the conclusion of Mass.
