Catherine Scavone

LONGMEADOW – Catherine Elizabeth (Dunia) Scavone, 89, beloved mother, sister and aunt passed away on December 13, 2018 at the Jewish Nursing Home in Longmeadow. Born in Springfield, MA on February 18, 1929 to the late Francesco and Maria (Luci) Dunia, she was a graduate of the High School of Commerce. Catherine was a communicant of Holy Name Church. She was a devout Catholic who attended daily Mass and was an active member of the Blue Army and Forever Young Club. She also loved traveling to Europe and throughout the United States and enjoyed Broadway musicals and concerts. Besides her parents, Catherine was predeceased by her loving husband of 62 years, Mario Scavone who passed away in 2015; her brothers, Dominic, Antonio and Frank Dunia; and her sisters, Eleanor Ortona, Eva Dunia and Delores Oliveri. To cherish her memory, she leaves her children, Michael Scavone, and Mary Ellen Clay and her husband Henry all of Longmeadow; sister Josephine Stewart of Jackson, MI, sister-in-law Florence Dunia of East Longmeadow as well as many nieces and nephews. Family and friends are invited to gather on Monday, December 17, 2018 from 4-8 PM at Forastiere Smith Funeral Home, 220 North Main Street, East Longmeadow. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, December 18, 2018 beginning at 8:45 AM at the funeral home followed by a Liturgy of Christian Burial at 10 AM at Holy Name Church. Burial will be in St. Michael’s Cemetery. Memorial contributions in Catherine’s memory may be made to Holy Name Church, 323 Dickinson St. Springfield.
