SPRINGFIELD- Daniel “Dan” J. Murray, 73, a longtime resident of Springfield, passed away unexpectedly on November 14, 2018.Dan was born on April 11, 1945, in Holyoke , a son of the late David and Lois (Kane) Murray. Dan was the brother of the late Mary Ann Mitchell of Holyoke.
A United States Air Force veteran, Dan served his country during the Vietnam War. He was a parishioner of Holy Name Parish, Springfield. He enjoyed golfing, the occasional visit to the casino, and anything to do with history. Dan enjoyed to travel and loved to plan many family vacations. He retired from Metropolitan Insurance Company; however his life career was that of teaching. His vocation included Our Lady of Hope School, substitute teaching in Belchertown, and most recently at Nashoba Regional in Lancaster, nearby Leominster where he had relocated for the past four years.
Dan is survived by his devoted wife of 46 years, Maria (Reale) Murray, his loving daughter, son in law, and cherished granddaughter, Meghan, Mark, and Stella Wood all of Sterling; a brother and sister in law, David and Carolyn Murray of Reston, VA; a sister Betty Hutchinson of Florida; a brother in law and sister in law, Joseph and Eileen Reale of Illinois; a sister in law and brother in law, Anna and Lawrence Wysocki of Springfield; along with nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Dan’s funeral services will begin at 10:00AM on Wednesday (Nov. 21, 2018) from the Forastiere Smith Family Funeral Home, 220 North Main St., East Longmeadow. A Liturgy of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00AM in Holy Name Church, 323 Dickinson St., Springfield. Rites of committal and military honors will follow in the Massachusetts Veterans’ Memorial Cemetery, 1390 Main St., Agawam.
