Eunice R. Smith

Torrington, CT- Eunice R. (Stoddard) Smith passed away Wednesday, May 1, 2019 at Valerie Manor in Torrington, CT. She was born in Westmoreland, NH on March 5, 1921 to the late Hollis and Marjorie (Pease) Stoddard. Eunice graduated from Commerce of High School in Springfield, and later in life, she attended Western New England College and received her Bachelor’s in history. Eunice was a passionately creative woman who loved making crafts, weaving, making her own clothes, and she was a voracious reader. She belonged to The Weaver’s Guild of Springfield and was a master weaver who taught adult evening classes in weaving and she wrote a seminal book on the subject. She was a member of the Trinity Methodist Church in Springfield, and was active in the Longmeadow community at the Senior Center and the Library. She loved her family, and her many grandchildren and great grandchildren lit up her life and made her smile. She will be fondly remembered by her son Kelvin Smith and his wife Christine of New Hartford CT; daughter-in-law Linda Smith; and grandchildren Eric Smith, Lina Smith, Philip Smith, Cathie Marandino, Kevin Levernoch, Keith Levernoch, Cozeen Mayotte, Conan Levernoch; and great grandchildren and many extended family. In addition to her parents she was predeceased of her loving husband Seymour Smith; her son Randall Smith; sisters Rachel Maxwell and Barbara Needham. Family and friends are invited to gather for calling hours Wednesday May 8, 2019 from 5:00pm to 8:00pm in Forastiere Smith Funeral Home, 220 North Main Street, East Longmeadow, MA. Funeral services will be on Thursday May 9, 2019 starting at 11:00am at the Funeral Home. Burial will follow at Hillcrest Park Cemetery, Springfield. Memorial Contributions in Eunice’s name may be made to The Youth Rally, which is a summer camp that provides a non-threatening environment for kids between the ages of 11 and 17 with any sort of bowel or bladder dysfunction. Checks should be made out to the "Youth Rally Committee, Inc." and mailed to: Youth Rally Committee, Inc.
