James M. Trase, affectionately known as Amazing Jim by his beloved wife JoAnne, passed away surrounded by his loving family on Wednesday, October 11, 2017 in the comfort of his home in East Longmeadow. Born in Springfield, MA on October 23, 1962, he was the son of Eugene and Margaret (Kirby) Trase who survive his passing, and was a lifelong resident of East Longmeadow. Jim graduated from East Longmeadow High School with the Class of 1981 and went on to attend St. Thomas More before graduating from New England College in 1986. Jim worked for the Hampden County Sheriff’s Department as a Corrections Officer, and was recently promoted to the rank of Sergeant. Jim was an accomplished hockey and lacrosse player in college and devoted countless hours to coaching youth. He shared a passion for golf with his parents and siblings. Jim was a true superhero to his best friend, soul mate, and beloved wife, the woman he’s been with forever in their hearts, JoAnne (DeCesare) Trase. He also leaves his 3 sons, Peter, Griffin, and Michael Trase; 3 step-sons, Dominic, Anthony, and Frankie Soares; 2 brothers, Kirby and Anthony Trase; his Aunt Betty Jane Griffin; cousin Jim Griffin; brother-in-law, Vinnie DeCesare and wife Meggie and their son Rocco AKA Beef, sister-in-law, Dana DeCesare and her children, Angelina and Gino; best friends, Tommy Noel and Tommy O’Brien; dear friends Shelley Sears, Sheriff Nick Cocchi, and Major John Auclair; nieces and nephews, Samantha, Corey, Ian, Olivia, and James; and 6 nieces and nephews from a previous marriage; as well as countless friends and co-workers who will miss him tremendously. The family wishes to extend their heartfelt gratitude to Dr. Glynn and his nurse Cindy Leonard from Mercy Medical Center for their compassionate care and support of Jim; it will never be forgotten.

His family will receive friends on Monday, October 16th from 9AM - 12 PM at the Forastiere Smith Funeral Home, 220 North Main St., East Longmeadow. A Liturgy of Christian Burial will take place at 1 PM at St. Michael’s Parish, East Longmeadow. Burial will be private.
