Marie R. Contakis

East Longmeadow – Marie R. (Donahue) Contakis passed away Monday, May 27, 2019 surrounded by her loving family. Born in Queens, New York, Marie was one of five children of James and Alice (Purcell) Donahue. She grew up in Springfield and was a graduate of Springfield Technical High School. Marie worked for Baystate Medical Center in their Oncology Department as a Unit Secretary and in the Medical Records Department. She was an avid reader and enjoyed spending time with her caring family. Marie had a deep appreciation for her faith, for the bible study group and being a member at St. George Greek Orthodox Cathedral in Springfield.
Her beloved husband, Charles A. Contakis, predeceased Marie in 1991. Marie is also predeceased by her parents; her brothers, Robert, Charles and Paul Donahue; and her sister, Rita Palardy. She leaves her children: Lynn Kuselias and her husband George, Tony Contakis and his wife Karen, and Michael Contakis and his wife Laura; three adored grandchildren: Stephen Kuselias and his wife Ashley, Peter Kuselias and his wife Marilyn, and John Kuselias and his wife Julie; and one cherished great-grandson Joseph.
The funeral will take place on Monday, June 3, 2019 at 10:00am directly at St. George Cathedral on 22 St. George Road in Springfield and burial will follow in Oak Grove Cemetery.
