Obituary

East Longmeadow – Maryann H. (Falvo) Haraty 87, a retired employee of the Town of East Longmeadow died at home surrounded by her loving family. She was the beloved wife of 50 years to the late Robert E. Haraty Jr. who passed away in 2003. She was born in Springfield to the late Agostino and Angelina (Mazzei) Falvo from Calabria, Italy. She was educated in Springfield, and was a 1952 graduate of High School of Commerce. She attended The American Institute of Banking and worked at Third National Bank for 10 years then remained at home to raise her children. Afterwards, she worked for the Town Engineer in the Town of East Longmeadow for 20 years before she retired. She was elected to the Board of Public Works for the Town of East Longmeadow and was a Eucharistic Minister for St. Michaels Church in East Longmeadow. She volunteered at the Chestnut Hill Rehabilitation and Nursing Center for 17 years and was the Treasurer for the Morning Glory Walkers in East Longmeadow.
Maryann leaves her sons Scott Haraty and wife Lynette of Wisconsin, Mark Haraty and his significant other Joann Murray, and grandchildren Lauren and Jason McCarraher, Matthew Haraty, Chelsea Haraty and significant other Devan Summers, Samantha Heffernan and her husband Trever, and Leanna Haraty. She also leaves two great grandchildren Mila Haraty and Leonardo McCarraher in Wisconsin. She leaves her brother, Ernest Falvo and his wife, Barbara of Springfield; and her sister-in-law, Ida Falvo of Springfield. In addition to her parents and husband, she was predeceased by her brothers Charles, Raymond, Thomas, Daniel, and Frederick; and her sisters, Josephine Falvo, and Phyllis McGettrick. She was also recently predeceased by her granddaughter Sabrina Haraty.
Maryann will be remembered by all for her unconditional love of her family and friends, her passion for cooking, and her selfless service to others.
The family would like to thank the Baystate Hospice Team who always provided kind, compassionate, and loving care to Maryann. Visiting hours will be on Friday, September 25, 2020 from 4:00-7:00pm at Forastiere Smith Funeral & Cremation on 220 North Main Street in East Longmeadow. The funeral will take place on Saturday, September 26th beginning at 9:00am at the funeral home, followed by a Liturgy of Christian Burial at 10:00am in St. Michael’s Church, East Longmeadow and burial will follow in Old Hampden Cemetery, Chapin Road, Hampden. Face coverings and social distancing required for all.
