Matthew E. Buynicki

Matthew Edward Buynicki of Agawam was peacefully called home Wednesday, February 5, 2020 while surrounded by his family, 50 days before his 98th birthday. He is predeceased by his wife, the late Shirley Louise Sweeney, who passed away in 1997. He leaves a sister, Wanda Buynicki Roberts of Enfield CT; his three children, Stephen Buynicki and his partner Tina Mancuso of Agawam, Cheryl Duplessis and her husband Steven of Agawam, Gary Buynicki and his wife Sharon of Agawam; his 7 grandchildren, Steven Duplessis, Jr. of Melbourne FL, Jaclyn Buynicki of Agawam, Ryan Buynicki of Agawam, Adam Buynicki of West Springfield, Kevin Buynicki of West Springfield, Matthew Duplessis of Springfield, and David Duplessis of Chicopee; and 6 great grandchildren.
Matthew was one of 7 children born to Frank and Aplonia Buynicki of Westfield. He was an avid outdoorsman and great dad. He offered inspiration, guidance and assistance to his children and grandchildren throughout his life. He will be greatly missed by his family and friends.
Matthew served in the U.S. Army during WWII, and received a Bronze Star for single handedly capturing 7 German soldiers.
The family extends thanks to F Wing at Heritage Hall West of Agawam for their years of care and comfort, especially his nurses, Jan, Denise, Adonna, and Charles.
Burial arrangements will be at the discretion of the family. Memorial donations may be made to the Wounded Warrior Project (www.woundedwarriorproject.org) in Matthew’s name.
