Renso Anthony Frigo

Renso Anthony Frigo, of Agawam, passed away at home surrounded by his family and was taken by the angels to Heaven on October 11, 2021. He was born in Dolo, Venezia, Italy on May 12, 1933 to the late Amedeo and Emilia (Balden) Frigo. Renso was the proprietor and president of Frigo Foods on William Street for over 50 years. Renso’s childhood was spent in Peshtigo, Wisconsin and he later moved to Torrington, Connecticut where he grew up until the age of 17. He then moved to Springfield, Mass with his family. He became a member of Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church and graduated from Cathedral High School in 1952. Renso served in the United States Army in the Second Armored Division. He was stationed in Germany during the Korean War in 1953. When he returned home he became part of his father’s business Frigo Foods on William Street. He met and fell in love with the love of his life Ann Marie (Annie) Cellilli at a Mountain Park dance. They were married on November 12, 1956. They would have celebrated 65 years of marriage next month. Together they settled in Agawam where they raised their children. After Renso retired he enjoyed traveling, taking walks with Ann, spending time with his children and their families at their homes, and taking rides to his son’s barn. Renso was a lifetime member of the Springfield Elks. He sponsored many events for disabled children and adults throughout his lifetime including Kamp for Kids in Westfield and Baroco in West Springfield. He served as the Mental Health Director for Abilities Unlimited in the 1980’s. He was a member of the Agawam Unico and Knights of Columbus. He was a very loving, generous, and humorous person who always had a funny story or joke to share. He loved to make Italian Sunday dinners and sit at the table with his family to tell stories about his youth, service in the Army, and his trips to Italy. He had many beautiful family relationships and friends. He was a loving father to his children who will miss him dearly. He leaves his son Paul Frigo, his daughter Lisa Frigo and her husband Rob Schechtman of Agawam; his son Joseph Frigo and his wife Lisa of Somers, Connecticut and daughter Francesca Pellegrino and her husband Domenic of Agawam. He will be forever missed by his eight grandchildren who he loved with all his heart. They will always remember their Poppop’s gentle nature and fun personality . He leaves Mitchell and William (fiancé Alison) Krach; Joseph, Anthony and Nicholas Frigo; and Anna, Domenic and Joseph Pellegrino. He leaves his brothers and sisters along with their spouses who he had wonderful times with throughout his life; Rosetta Angelica Adornato; Anna and Francis Spellacy; George and Clare Frigo; Dino and Linda Frigo and Bruno Frigo. He leaves his many nephews and nieces, close friends, and Jamie Mitchell (Paul’s PCA). Thank you to all of the caregivers who helped make our dad comfortable during his illness.
