YORK, MAINE- Richard J. Palazzi, 85, passed away at his home on March 19, 2019; surrounded by his loving family. Richard was born on October 8, 1933 to the late Mario and Mary Louise (Hartung) Palazzi. He grew up in Springfield’s Hollywood section of the South End. He joined the U.S. Navy right out of high school and was a veteran of the Korean Conflict. Richard worked as a Budget Director and later Deputy Superintendent at the Holyoke Soldiers’ Home. He retired after 22 years. Richard was a member of the Dante Club. He was an avid golfer, playing mostly at the Agawam Country Club and East Mountain Country Club. Richard was a Golden Gloves competitor for two years. He leaves his wife of 31 years, Avril F. (Templeton) Palazzi; two sons, Gabriel Palazzi and his wife Sherran, James Campbell and his wife Karen ; a daughter, Bonnie Campbell; six granddaughters, Deja, Kalley, Sierra, Charisma, Julianna, and Jamisen; two grandsons, Nathan and Charlie; great granddaughter, Summer. Calling hours are from 10:00AM – 11:00 AM, on Wednesday (March 27, 2019) in the Forastiere Smith Family Funeral Home, 220 North Main St., East Longmeadow. Funeral services will begin at 11:00AM from the funeral home, with a procession to St. Paul’s Church, 235 Dwight Rd., Springfield for a 12:00 noon Liturgy of Christian Burial. Rites of Committal and Military Honors will follow in the Massachusetts Veterans’ Memorial Cemetery, 1390 Main St., Agawam.
