Obituary

Springfield- Robert L. Piteo, 72, passed away peacefully on July 4, 2020, after a short illness; surrounded by his loving family.
Robert, was born in Springfield, on March 7, 1948 to the late Joseph Piteo Sr. and Margaret Mary (Walsh) Piteo; and was a lifelong resident. He received an honorable discharge from the U. S. Navy having served his country during the Vietnam era. Robert retired in 2011 as District Recreation Supervisor, City of Springfield, Parks Department. He enjoyed going to the beach. Robert was an avid sports fan, notably, a diehard season ticket holder for the U Conn Women’s Basketball. Locally, he coached numerous youth sports (soccer, baseball, and basketball). In addition to sports Robert was very family oriented. He was always there for his family and you could depend on him for anything. He is survived by his three brothers, Joseph Piteo and his wife Marianne, of East Longmeadow, Ronald Piteo and his wife Cathy, of West Springfield, Randy Piteo and his wife Elizabeth, of Springfield. He was “Uncle Bob” to his many nieces, and nephews. He also leaves extended family members. Family and friends may attend the calling hours, 4:00PM-7:00PM on Thursday (July 9th) in the Colonial Forastiere Family Funeral Home, 786 Main St. (RT 159), Agawam. Funeral services will begin at 8:45AM, on Friday (July 10th) in the funeral home. A Liturgy of Christian Burial will follow at 10:00AM in Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church,123 William St., Springfield. Burial will follow in the St. Michael’s Cemetery (St. Bernadette Section) 1401 State Street, Springfield.
