Obituary

MARBLEHEAD Virginia Carol (Tanis) Robbins, 88, daughter of William and Louise Tanis passed away peacefully April 13, 2024 surrounded by her loving family. Virgina grew up in the Chicago area before moving to Coral Gables, Florida where she Graduated from Coral Gables High School and attended The University of Miami, studying Sociology. She was a member of the Kappa, Kappa, Gamma Sorority. Ginny, as she is affectionately known as, relocated to East Longmeadow after she was married to Dr. Kenneth Robbins where she lived for over 50 years. Virgina spent her early years in East Longmeadow focused on raising her three children. She was an avid reader and used that interest and passion to serve as a Library Trustee to the East Longmeadow Library for over 40 years. She also loved to bake and was known for bringing something tasty and sweet to the Republican Town Committee meetings, election polls or dropping something off at the Police or Fire Department. She continued to use her love for cooking working for Jessica Lee’s Catering for a few years. Virgina was always volunteering and supporting those who needed help by driving people to /from appts, to church, delivering Easter Lilies as well as meals on wheels. She loved flower arranging and the garden club. Most important to Ginny was her family. She loved to play practical jokes on her family and get the last laugh, participate in Halloween and dressing up in costumes just so the kids would get a chuckle when they came to the door. Her laugh was so infectious to those around her. As her health declined, she kept her sense of humor giving those who cared for her some pretty funny laughs. She was also known for giving the most unique gifts at birthdays and Christmas known as Ginny gifts. She was a big fan of animation and the adult humor contained within. She taught her family to do for others, always have hope, laugh at the little things, and above all, be kind. Virginia will be sadly missed by her 2 daughters, Diana Robbins Hayes of Feeding Hills, Lisa Tanis Herlihy and her husband Brian of Swampscott, three grandchildren, Robin and her husband Emerson Rogers of Marblehead, MA, Jack Herlihy and Liam Herlihy both of Swampscott, MA. She also leaves a brother, Dr. David Tanis of Winter Haven, Florida, and very special friends, Donna and Richard Herlihy of Weymouth, MA. Ginny was predeceased by her son Gregory who passed away in 2005. She was a member of South Congregational Church and served as a deaconess for many years. Family and friends are invited to gather on Thursday, April 18, 2024, from 10:00 AM - 11:00 AM at Forastiere Smith Funeral and Cremation, 220 North Main Street, East Longmeadow followed by a Service at 11AM.
